Archaeological Site Adjacent to Sand Plant

The Midden Mound adjacent to Witherspoon Sand was used by Native Americans to bury shells, animal bones and other items. Vulcan Materials Company installed a fence around the archaeological site so that it will not be disturbed.

“When Vulcan Materials Company begins a new operation, there is a whole host of permits and operation standard practices that must be followed,” said Lori Sanville, Environmental Manager. “One of those is to bring an archaeologist on site if deemed necessary,” Sanville said. “Based on the archaeological findings we will put whatever protective management program into effect that we need to.”
