Hives Thrive Next to Quarry
There’s a lot of sweetness spreading around Vulcan Material Company’s Friendship Quarry. Beekeeper Russell Bell finds time away from his position as a fixed maintenance worker to care for the beehives located just steps away from the quarry operations.
Vulcan paid the tuition for Bell to attend beekeeper classes. He hopes to earn additional certifications in the coming years. The area surrounding the quarry provides a wonderful environment for the bees to thrive and Bell calls it “my retreat.”
Approximately 20 pounds of Friendship honey was given away to Vulcan employees. Another 56 pounds was harvested at the Vulcan Norcross Quarry for employees to enjoy.
