Eric Ponder joined the South Carolina National Guard in 2007, shortly after graduating from the University of South Carolina-Columbia. Three years ago, Ponder added to his resume when he accepted a position as a sales representative at Vulcan Materials Company.

Ponder pilots an H-2 helicopter and recently participated in rescue missions during Hurricane Florence. “Vulcan has been very good with allowing me to execute my National Guard mission,” Ponder said.

“One of the main similarities between Vulcan and aircraft communication is communication is key,” he said. “Being able to communicate with your co-pilot, crew chief, passengers and air traffic control is key,” he said. “At Vulcan being able to communicate with your customers, management and with operations guys is essential.”

“It’s nice to have employers that understand and support their soldiers who are also in the National Guard,” said Matt Summey, Operations Officer, U.S. Army.
